Urban Education Teaching Initiative Steering Committee
The Urban Education Initiative Steering Committee was created to review current programs and practices at Illinois State University that contribute to the education of teachers for urban schools. The committee will make recommendations regarding urban teacher education around the following issues:
- Implement marketing strategies to encourage candidates to teach in urban schools;
- Develop in-class experiences may be included in required courses for each program;
- Create a minor or series of courses to give distinction to students pursuing teaching in urban schools;
- Provide clinical experiences in urban settings;
- Deliver faculty development on teaching in urban schools; and
- Initiate research on issues involved in teaching in urban schools.
