Chicago Public Schools Teaching Residency and Internship Programs

Chicago Public Schools is the third largest public school system in the United States, serving 426,812 children in 613 schools.  The Chicago Public Schools Teaching Residency and Internship Programs are designed to provide talented education majors the experience of living and teaching in the city of Chicago with the hope that they return to the district as new hires upon graduation and certification.

These highly competitive programs bring pre-service teachers into Chicago Public Schools classrooms during the summer, offering mentoring, professional development, exploration of the city's cultural venues and events as well as complimentary housing, transportation and a living stipend (Residency Program only).  In 2005, Illinois State University represented the second largest group of students accepted into the former Chicago Public Schools Summer Fellows program from over 60 U.S. universities nationwide.

Chicago Public Schools Teaching Residency and Internship Programs seek education majors enrolled in teacher preparation programs at accredited colleges or universities nationwide. Students should be within 12 to 18 months of receiving teacher certification and have demonstrated an interest in teaching in an urban environment through volunteerism or extra-curricular activities.

Students interested in this program must apply by February 28, 2006.  For more information, please contact Chicago Public Schools, Department of Human Resources.
